Thriving Leaders

Give your leaders the tools and techniques to improve wellbeing in their teams

Leaders and managers play a critical role in shaping the wellbeing of others. Their influence on helping to create positive work experiences that help individuals feel valued, engaged and fulfilled in their work means their impact extends beyond individual wellbeing and contributes to the collective success and happiness of teams and organisations.

The problem is that managers are more likely than those they manage to experience stress and burnout and where you have a burnt out manager you are more likely to have a team who are stressed, disengaged and burnt out too. Not only this but managers are now expected to have conversations about wellbeing and mental health with their teams, a skill which many don’t feel confident to do. On top of this is that managers and leaders have the ability to make or break people. We never forget a good manager who helped us through a difficult time or encouraged us with our professional career. But we also never forget a poor manager who made us feel anxious, unfairly treated or unsupported.

Poor management and leadership skills contribute to stress and distress at work, leading to people checking out, calling in sick or being off with stress and poor mental health.

  • Did you know that managers have more of an impact on our mental health than doctors and therapists – and even equal to that of our spouse or partner (The Workforce Institute)
  • Poor leadership is a factor for many job moves: When asked why workers left their last organisation, one in five people (21%) gave ‘being unhappy with the leadership of senior management’ as a reason, rising to 30% for those who’ve changed jobs in the last 12 months (CIPD)

I really appreciate that we were all able to input and be listened to, but within a structure so that I feel confident in our plans now. I don't think we'd have been able to do this ourselves quite so quickly and effectively in this focused way.
